10 Guidelines For Prioritizing Fun
Exercising, eating well and prioritizing sleep are all important for good health but equally important is having FUN! Having a sense of humor can help us better handle the weightiness of life’s challenges when they arise. Cracking up is a great release and when you laugh with someone, you also bond with that someone creating connection.
So what is fun? The dictionary definition of fun is that it’s simply “light-hearted amusement or enjoyment.” Catherine Price defines it as the combination of playfulness [light-hearted spirit—of not taking yourself too seriously], connection [having a special, shared experience with someone else] and flow [state we’re in when we’re totally engrossed and actively focused on the activity or experience at hand—it’s when we’re in the zone]. However you definite fun works! Below are some ideas to help ensure you have fun in your life!
1. Find things that excite you and learn about them! Growing and learning are actually fun….they aren’t just school requirements! Find books, magazines, podcasts, or videos on topics you enjoy Expanding your knowledge actually brings great health benefits. Be curious!
2. Watch comedy shows and movies. Listen to funny podcasts.
3. Get outside in nature and unplug.
4. Listen to music.
5. Take vacations. Discovering new places and having adventures are so fun!
6. Try new things like a new hobby like learning to play an instrument or cook or bake a new recipe.
7. Break out of your schedule for a moment and do something you don’t usually do in your daily routine!
8. Make it your mindset. Simple acts can be fun if you choose to see them that way.
9. Plan fun. This may sound strange but you don’t have to wait for fun to happen….plan it..put it on your calendar.
10. Make fun a habit..just like all the other good health habits you practice!
